What You Need

Box of Brownie Mix

15 oz Can of Pumpkin

What To Do

You DO NOT need anything else but the brownie mix and pumpkin ( ex – water, oil, eggs)

Preheat oven as instructed on the box

Mix the pumpkin and brownie mix together – it will be thick

Pour into a pan and bake till firm

Enjoy!

It does not taste extremely like pumpkin — though it does have a hint… but perfect for fall.

It is a GREAT way to cut those extra calories and fat!

Took me 45 minutes to bake in a 8×8 pan

    Can you taste the pumpkin?

    • Budget Savvy Diva

Barely — only if you are really trying to taste it.

  • Stacy Van Kleef

You can do this with any cake mix as well.

  • Nancy

Melt 3 TB peanut butter in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Dip spoon fulls over the top of your brownie batter and then take a knife and swirl through it. Bake as above. Makes them even yummier!!

HungryGirl.com has a lot of recipes similar to this. That’s the first place I saw this.

I made this tonight but I used the No Pudge brownie mix I added some nutmeg, it worked great gave it a fall taste

  • teresa

has anyone tried it with gluten free brownie mix?

    • Budget Savvy Diva

      Yep works great!

  • Debra

Would applesauce work in place of the pumpkin? I’m pretty sure my kids won’t eat the pumpkin (nor will my husband!)

    • Budget Savvy Diva

      Not sure 🙁

Do NOT tell them you added pumpkin!I made several times, with cake mixes too(Cake batter is a little thick, so I rinse out the can wih a dab of H20) and eventually family found out and they request it all the time!

  • Shelley

Done this…was pretty good. I also mix together a can of diet 7up and strawberry cake mix or a can of diet co*ke and devils food cake mix…yummy=)

I have a very similar recipe I use – I use a box of brownie mix with a can of black beans. You drain and rinse the black beans, put in the blender, puree the you-know-what- out of them, mix in with the mix, pour and bake. Super yummy! I learned this in my Weight Watchers meetings – 2 points a brownie (which is great)!

  • Kelly

Wow! Must try this! I absolutly LOOOVE cooking and love trying new things! lol (:

  • Michelle

I finally tried this. They are in the oven now. I am doing them in my mini loaf pan. Perfect size for my hungry soldiers lunch. Homemade snack cakes!

    • Shirl

Do I leave the oil, eggs, and water out and just add the pumpkin?

      • Budget Savvy Diva

        Yep

  • Tiffani

I bought the stuff to make these with the kids tomorrow. Can’t wait to try them!

  • Dani

What’s the texture like? Still chewy like regular brownies, slightly less chewy, or more cake-like?

  • Kate

So yummy! Making them to bring to a picnic tomorrow 🙂

  • Patty

It’s been a while since you posted this, but I was curious if you could do this recipe with a can of sweet potatoes, puree the potatoes and do the same recipe?

I really am craving brownies and don’t have any eggs or pumpkin, just a can of sweet potatoes and some applesauce. Gonna have to try something!
