New Overwatch 2 Hero: Sojourn

The former captain of Overwatch has been a commanding voice in our ears throughout the original Overwatch, narrating some of Overwatch’s key Archive PvE missions including Retribution and Storm Rising.

Now at long last, you get to play the hero behind the voice.

Sojourn joins the ranks of Damage heroes in Overwatch 2, and her kit promises new players not only extreme mobility but a versatility in her style of gameplay that will delight beginners and veterans alike.

Her Railgun is a powerful mid-range weapon adept at keeping approaching enemy players at bay, as well as picking them off from afar. Each shot you hit with Sojourn’s Railgun steadily powers up her secondary fire, a high-impact burst of stored energy that will chew right through any low-health target.

Playing Sojourn is all about nailing your shots, but with her Disruptor Shot in your back pocket, accuracy is on your side. This burst of energy can stick to floors and walls, and any enemy players that step into its radius are not only slowed, but gradually start taking damage.

Perhaps the tastiest slice of Sojourn’s kit is her Power Slide ability. Slide across the ground with increasing momentum, and cancel the ability at any time with Jump to launch yourself into the air. Power Slide gives Sojourn the edge in battle to press the advantage, retreat at a moment’s notice, or reposition swiftly as your team progresses through the map.

Her Overclock Ultimate ramps up the damage she can do, enabling you to rapidly fire off her secondary fire, piercing through multiple enemy players with one shot.

Tips for Playing Sojourn

  • Sojourn’s Disruptor Shot ability is great not just for doing damage or slowing enemies but it can also “zone” enemies by cutting off small avenues or narrow spaces from incoming enemy players. Remember that her Disruptor Shot is an orb and not a dome, so you can fire it and stick it to the sides of objects in the environment.
  • Combining your Disruptor Shot with a fully charged Railgun secondary burst fire can help improve your accuracy, so consider saving your Disruptor Shot until your secondary fire is ready to go.
  • Fire your Disruptor Shot at a flanking enemy player before calling them out to your team, giving you and your allies a better chance of picking them off before they can escape.
  • While you should never overextend too much, your Power Slide allows you to get up close and personal with an enemy team before sliding backwards to the safety of your team.
  • Sojourn’s Railgun has no damage dropoff, making her an excellent counter to sniper heroes such as Widowmaker or Hanzo, which might be giving your team a problem.
  • Remember that you do not need to fully charge up the Railgun’s secondary burst fire in order to fire it off. Even when charged to 65%, Railgun’s secondary fire does significant damage to “squishy” or low-health enemies.

New Overwatch 2 Hero: Junker Queen

The Junker Queen takes her rightful place among Overwatch 2’s Tank hero class, with all the might of an army behind her powerful presence.

Glimpsed in the original Overwatch as the voice behind the gates of the Junkertown map, Junker Queen stakes her claim in Overwatch 2 as the bristly anti-hero with the chutzpah to propel any mission to the finish line.

Junker Queen’s kit is built around brawling, and she is most powerful when thick in the fray. Her Scattergun weapon deals massive damage at close-range, and her beloved Jagged Blade (“Gracie”) will drag any impaled enemy towards the Queen so she can sink her teeth into them.

The swing of her battleaxe, or her “Carnage” ability, not only cuts through all enemies in her path, the wounds enemy players sustain from Carnage will deal damage over time. This is where the crux of the Queen’s power lies, as her Passive “Adrenaline Rush” ability in essence gradually steals health from her wounded enemies.

Let’s not forget her Commanding Shout, an ability that gives a speed boost on top of some temporary health not just to you, but to any allies in its radius.

Junker Queen’s Ultimate sends her into a Rampage, similar to Reinhardt’s Charge, sending you flying through your enemies.

All enemies wounded by her swinging blade are dealt damage over time, and while the effect lasts, they are unable to get any healing from their team.

Tips for Playing Junker Queen

  • Sinking Junker Queen’s Jagged Blade into an enemy across a steep drop and then recalling it can instantly send them pummeling off the map.
  • Prioritize aiming your Jagged Blade at enemy Support heroes to pull them out of position, making them more vulnerable to you and your team’s damage.
  • Use your Rampage on a large swath of enemy players to cut off healing from their Supports. This can be especially devastating if the enemy team is relying on a Support that does AOE healing over time such as Lucio or Brigitte.
  • Use Commanding Shout to give you and your teammates a speed boost out of the spawn room, or to launch yourselves quickly onto the objective. You can combo Commanding Shout after Lucio’s Speed Boost to give your team even more movement speed.
  • Carnage is great for more than just finishing off low-health targets. Use it whenever an enemy comes within range to trigger Junker Queen’s Adrenaline Rush passive and start generating some health.
  • Junker Queen’s Rampage can also be used to reposition yourself out of danger in a pinch. Use it to propel yourself back to your team if you realize you will not be winning this fight.
  • For an easy combo to eliminate any “squishy” or lower health heroes, such as Tracer, Mercy, etc, hit ‘em with two body shots from your Scattergun followed immediately by a melee attack with Gracie.

New Overwatch 2 Hero: Kiriko

Torn between the two traditional paths of her family, Kiriko Kamori chose to forge her own destiny. Blending the powerful burst healing of her Healing Ofuda with the dangerous accuracy of her Kunai, Kiriko is a Support hero to be reckoned with in Overwatch 2.

Kiriko’s Healing Ofuda sends out five healing talismans to seek out teammates in need of health, and will even top off more than one ally if they are standing close together.

Her Swift Step ability allows her to reposition at a moment’s notice, dashing to her team’s rescue, or retreating back to safety if the fight turns against you. Married with her passive Wall Climb ability, Kiriko is an extremely high-mobility Support hero.

The bread-and-butter of Kiriko’s kit is her Protection Suzu, a protection charm she can throw to her teammates to not only cleanse them of negative effects, but make them temporarily invulnerable. While it lasts for mere seconds, Kiriko’s Protection Suzu can effectively cancel out an enemy’s Ultimate if the timing is just right.

Her Kunai deal low damage, but have a high critical damage multiplier that rewards you for accuracy. Nail your headshots, and you can pick off low-health targets from a distance with all the precision of a sniper.

While Kiriko might excel in her team’s backline, flinging out Healing Ofuda and well-placed Kunai, her Kitsune Rush Ultimate allows you to give your team the offensive push they need. Summoning her fox spirit to forge a path ahead, the trail Kiriko’s fox spirit creates forms an avenue where your allies not only move faster, but quickens their attack speeds and cooldowns.

Kiriko can be unlocked for free at Tier 55 of the Season One Battle Pass. By upgrading to the Premium Battle Pass, you automatically unlock Kiriko at Tier 1 without having to earn Battle Pass XP.

Tips for Playing Kiriko

  • Sending out your Ofuda rapid-fire can keep an ally who’s only being peppered with damage topped off, but you get more burst healing when all five of your paper tags are available. Wait for all your Ofuda to return to you before sending out healing for maximum effect.
  • While Kiriko’s Healing Ofuda does automatically lock on and home in on a target, it takes some time for them to travel. It is tempting to play far in the backline to snipe enemies with your Kunai, but your best chance at supporting your team is to play closer to the thick of it, where your paper tags can reach them quicker.
  • Knowing when and when not to put your abilities on cooldown is always important for a Support hero. However, the massive mitigating power of Kiriko’s Protection Suzu makes tracking the enemy team’s Ultimates all the more crucial. When used at the right moment, the Protection Suzu can essentially nullify the effects of many Ultimates, including D.va’s Self-Destruct or Mei’s Blizzard.
  • While the Protection Suzu can provide a small burst of healing to teammates in dire need, a far better use of it is to clear negative effects from your teammates, such as Ana’s Biotic Grenade or Zenyatta’s Discord Orb.
  • Kiriko’s Protection Suzu also does a small amount of knockback when it lands near an enemy player, and could be used to potentially boop unsuspecting targets off the edge of a map.
  • Use Wall Climb to get yourself out of danger in a pinch, particularly if your Swift Step is on cooldown or you do not have any teammates nearby.
  • Swift Step can help you quickly leave spawn with an ally to rejoin the fight, but that does not mean you always should.
  • If you are tracking the enemy team’s Ultimates, it is a good idea to save your Swift Step to quickly escape the range of an enemy Ultimate. Even if a nearby teammate is not out of the Ultimate’s range, Swift Step has a small window in which Kiriko is invulnerable. If you time it perfectly, you might escape unscathed.
  • Kiriko’s Kunai can allow you to snipe enemy players from afar if you have the skill for headshots. Even if your accuracy is not perfect, her Kunai are powerful enough to chase off flanking Damage and Tank heroes in a pinch.
  • The increased attack speed and reduced cooldowns that the Kitsune Rush Ultimate offers is huge.
  • You can send the Kitsune Rush out straight ahead, paving a path of destruction for your teammates to follow, but don’t be afraid to place the Kitsune Rush horizontally or in other directions to give your team more angles to rip and shred the enemy team.

Upcoming Overwatch 2 Heroes

The addition of Overwatch 2’s Battle Pass progressional rewards system would seem to hint toward more heroes being added in upcoming seasons of the Battle Pass.

Thanks to the Overwatch 2 Roadmap, we know for sure that a new Tank hero will be introduced in Season Two of Overwatch 2’s Battle Pass, starting December 6th, 2022.

Here are some heroes teased in previous Overwatch content (such as official Overwatch shorts, map assets, and more) that you might see become fully-fledged heroes in Overwatch 2:
